Welcoming New Interns and Volunteers!
by: Kent Zhu, Assistant Program Director
We are starting our new year with new volunteer mediators, and the cohort for spring 2010 is eclectic. We have volunteers from different professional backgrounds- some with conflict resolution experience, some with legal experience and others with experience in community involvement. Along with our fall volunteers, this spring we are able to serve our clients in the followig languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, Arabic, and Spanish.
Aylene, our Tagalog speaker, is currently a Loyola Law School student; she has been involved in conflict resolution since she was in 7th grade with the Center for Confict Resolution. Nan, one of our multilingual volunteers, is enthusiastic to learn about conflict resolution strategies and other cultures to help people. Chong Lin Huang, a master's student at USC in Communication Management, is new to the mediation process but is eager to put his communication skills to work. Teresa Lozano, a current counselor and facilitator of Aztlan Family Clinic, is bringing in her expertise in communication, especially for family issues to APADRC. Kevin Simons and Katherine Chen, who are graduating from the #1 conflict resolution program at Pepperdine University, will also start sharing their talent with APADRC this spring. We also welcome Jimothy Zhang and Lia Mancao from USC's Asian Pacific American Student Services, Maricela Lazaro from CSPU, and Chris Trigueros, a master's degree candidate of Negotiation, Conflict Resolution & Peace Building at Cal State University of Dominguez Hills.
