Debt Management Workshop

March 23, 2010

by: Charles Chang, Executive Director

APADRC, in partnership with the YNOT Foundation, conducted a debt management workshop in the Korean language at Young Nak Presbyterian Church, located in the Lincoln Heights area of Los Angeles.  Twenty people attended the workshop to learn more about how debt works and what their options are if they own money for  loan or credit card.  EunJi Bang, staff at APADR, and Jin Sun Oh, an APADRC intern, presented the workshop.

The information offered during the workshop gave details about interest rates, strategies on how to handle debt with multiple creditors, and how to negotiate with debt collectors.  After the workshop, the participants were given the opportunity to consult with staff about his or her particular situation.  The following days after the workshop, both APADRC and YNOT Foundation received calls from Koreans asking for mediation for their debts.

APADRC is pleased with the results of the workshop, and that the newspaper article preceding the workshop was able to make the community aware of our services.  APADRC will be holding the same workshop in Chinese Mandarin on April 24th at the Herald Christian Center in San Gabriel, CA.  Another workshop that will be forthcoming this fiscal year is on the issue of parent-child conflict management.
