Youth Mediators United
Youth Mediators United (YMU), the APADRC's youth division, provides both direct mediation services and conflict resolution training to students, teachers, and administrators. The work we do is unique from other peer mediation programs because we directly address sensitive issues that are often the catalyst behind conflict such as racism, sexism and homophobia. We provide training for students, staff, and teachers in the areas of peer mediation, conflict management, and cross-cultural competency; provide ongoing technical assistance after a peer mediation program has been established; and we provide opportunities for youth mediators to utilize their mediation skills in conferences, trainings, and speaking engagements. Although, the APADRC is primarily an Asian and Pacific Islander organization, we have a diverse staff that reaches out to all communities. We are currently serving the following schools:
- Edwin Markham Middle School
- Le Conte Middle School
- Robert E. Peary Middle School
- David Starr Jordan High School
- Jefferson High School
- King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science
- William Howard Taft High School
We are truly humbled by the passion and commitment of all the mediators who are making a difference in preventing violence on and off their campuses. We look forward to working with them as together we continue providing non-violent approaches to resolving conflict.
Community & Intergroup Conflicts
Community and Intergroup Conflicts (CIC) is a program of the APADRC that provides mediation, facilitation, and conflict resolution services to the diverse communities of Los Angeles County. CIC provides:
- A quicker, cheaper alternative to court.
- Multiple language services.
- A face-to-face, voluntary procedure in which in which people meet privately to talk about issues and work out an acceptable agreement with the help of a neutral mediator.
- Large group facilitation and dialogue for organizations.
- Telephone conciliation if a face-to-face mediation is unwanted or impractical.
- High ethical standards of confidentiality and neutrality.
- Empowerment of individuals to effectively manage future conflicts.
- Community resources, as needed, through an extensive network of human, social, and legal service providers.
How Can I Get Help?
Starting the mediation process is simple. Call APADRC at (213) 250-8190 to speak to an intake worker. If your dispute is not appropriate for mediation, APADRC offers referrals to other organizations.
We are not lawyers, advocates or counselors. Although we cannot guarantee the outcome of the case, we do our best to ensure that the process is fair to all parties.
APADRC charges a $15 fee for its mediation services. If a client is unable to pay for whatever reason, the fee is reduced or waived completely.

APADRC tailors each training to the circumstances of the agency, taking into account the organization's mission, structure, and constituency.
Our current training session will begin on Saturday, May 21st. The next training will be held in September 2005. APADRC charges $200/hour (per trainer) for training and $125/hour for consultation and prep work. All fees are subject to a sliding scale, depending on the budget of the organization. Non-profit rates are available. For more information on the APADRC's training schedule or fees, please contact Peggy Wu at (213)250-8190 x21 or peggy.wu@apadrc.org.
