DESCRIPTION:About this Event\n\n\nChallenging Racism Collaborative Campaign\nUniversity of Kent\, Liverpool John Moores University and City\, University of London are collaborating in order to launch a series of cross-sector live webinars on race\, racism and the importance of inclusive allyships. \nWorking in partnership with Inclusive Employers\, the programme aims to open-up channels of discussion and reflection around racism as well as raise awareness and understanding of challenges associated with ethnicity/race. \nThis opportunity is FREE and open to all staff from each institution – Places can be booked via Eventbrite. \n\n\nRace & Racism Webinar Series\nAs part of the Challenging Racism Collaborative Campaign\, there will be an opportunity for staff to attend three 90min online webinars on the subject of race and racism\, delivered by Inclusive Employers. \nEach webinar will be delivered by Inclusive Employers and will include a guest speaker (biographies for each guest speaker can be found below). \nWhite Privilege – What is it and how does it affect society?\nThis webinar will discuss white privilege and privilege more broadly\, incorporating how it affects our perspectives and behaviours. Some of the subjects we will cover are: \n• How does white privilege affect white and non-white people? \n• What can we do to change the privilege and power structures? \n• Inclusive actions we can all take in knowledge of the privileges we may hold \nPlease book your E-Tickets for each webinar/date (as outlined above) – We encourage participants to attend all three sessions to gain the most from this opportunity. \nQuestions? Please email: challengingracism@kent.ac.uk or equality@ljmu.ac.uk or rec@city.ac.uk \n\n\n\nGuest Speakers\nEach webinar will be delivered by Inclusive Employers and will include a guest speaker. \n\n\nDuring White Privilege – What is it and how does it affect society?\, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from Dr Deborah Gabriel (Founder of Black British Academics). \nTalk Title: \nAddressing White Privilege in Academia: Who\, What\, Where\, When\, Why and How? – The Ivory Tower Project: Towards equity\, transformation and social justice – critical reflections from a journalistic perspective \nDr Deborah Gabriel – Biography\nDr Deborah Gabriel is the Founder and Director of Black British Academics\, a global network of scholars focused on addressing racial inequality in higher education and society\, established in 2013. Key areas of focus are transformation in teaching\, learning and research\, with an emphasis on equity and social justice. She created and leads the Ivory Tower Project on race and gender inequality in academia and developed the 3D Pedagogy Framework to decolonise\, democratise and diversify the higher education curriculum. Her current areas of focus are community empowerment and collaborative social justice. \nHer intellectual work is interdisciplinary and broadly focused on the dynamics of race\, gender and culture in media\, communication\, and higher education. These areas of inquiry are approached from a critical race and Black feminist standpoint to analyse the relationships between race\, power\, privilege\, and inequality. As a consultant\, she specializes in strategic approaches to equity\, diversity and inclusion centred on social justice and transformation in higher education and society. \n\n\n\n\n\n*Times displayed in GMT
