SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Please join State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate Dr. Russell M Jeung\, along with youth leaders Sabrina Tang\, Megan Chan\, Thomas Files\, Evan Chen\, and Zoe Yee\, for a roundtable conversation about the rise of anti-Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate crimes. Assemblymember David Chiu will also be giving remarks at the beginning. \nThis event is meant to elevate the voices (particularly student voices) of AAPI community members as we learn how schools\, educators\, and educational leaders can assist in stopping AAPI hate crimes.  \nWe have seen a significant rise in AAPI hate crimes over the past year\, and the numbers are likely more astonishing as many hate crimes go unreported. (Source: FACT SHEET: Anti-Asian Prejudice March 2021 Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism CSUSB Anti-Asian Hate Crime Reported to Police in America’s Largest Cities: 2019 & 2020) \nRegister in advance for this webinar.
