No-Cost COVID Testing: How to Secure and Deploy Free Rapid Antigen Testing to Support Safe In-Person Learning

April 19, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond invites California school districts to a special webinar where officials from the CDE and other experts will provide an overview of how schools can access the state’s supply of 5 million rapid antigen tests as an additional tool to facilitate a safe return to in-person learning.

The credit card-sized rapid antigen tests—which can be administered by any trained member of the school staff and can provide results in just 15 minutes—will be free to school districts. The California COVID-19 Testing Taskforce will provide the required training and oversight to participating K–12 schools.

Research from the University of Southern California shows rapid COVID tests can detect the most contagious cases before infections spread.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr. Neeraj Sood, Director, COVID Initiative at the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics; Professor and Vice Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs, USC Price School of Public Policy
  • Dr. Lynn Silver, Senior Advisor, Public Health Institute

For questions, please contact: rapidtesting@cde.ca.gov.

School districts that are interested in enrolling in the state’s rapid antigen testing program are asked to complete this no-commitment interest form.

Note: Participants do not need to fill out this form to participate in Monday’s webinar.
